Creating Monochromatic Color Schemes

by MyVinylDesigner 24. July 2009 06:29

Monochrome means "one color"... so in a monochromatic color scheme, one color is highlighted through different values (lightness or darkness) and intensity (brightness or dullness). An example would include the combination of various shades of blacks and grays on a black or gray surface.

Our most stunning monochromatic color combos, with or without second color overlays include:

dark gray vinyl ..... black surface
light gray vinyl ..... white or dark gray surface
tan vinyl ..... light or dark creme surface
silver vinyl* ..... light gray or white surface
beige vinyl ..... light or dark creme surface
frosted vinyl ..... mirrored surface
creme vinyl .... slightly darker taupe surface

*Any same-color combination works well if the values, intensity and hues are similar. The metallic Oracal 631 colors are soft and velvety looking with a matte finish

EXAMPLE #1
In this project, black vinyl was placed on a dark gray surface, with a second overlay of vinyl popping out in white. The subtle variation adds depth, warmth, and a quiet strength to the monogram. Imagine this technique on the wall alone without an overlay. Beautiful effect!

EXAMPLE #2
In this project, tan vinyl is placed on a creme-colored wall. The subtle variation creates a soft, warm feel for the vinyl project. A powerful, yet subtle way, to express the most important messages in your home. Gorgeous!
